Abstract Phagocytosis is a biological process that plays key role in host defense and tissue homeostasis. Efficient approaches for realtime imaging of phagocytosis are highly desired but limited. Herein, an AIE-active near-infrared fluorescent probe, named TBTCP , was developed fluorescence lifetime phagocytosis. could selectively label the cell plasma membrane with fast staining, wash-free process, high signal-to-background ratio, excellent photostability. Cellular statuses under different osmolarities as well macrophage bacteria or large silica particles early stages be reported by changes . Compared current methods, which target bioenvironmental late stage, this approach detects membrane, thus giving faster response to This article provides functional tool report phagocytic dynamics macrophages may greatly contribute studies function-related diseases.
